The arran pattern I mentioned a few days ago. If you take a basic pattern shape of a jumper and cut it up into different shapes. The hole in the middle of the pieces in the picture are a v -neck, the wing like bits to the side go under the arms.
Starting with a diagonal panel across the front, the side seams in the middle of a triangle shape, then the other pieces fitted together like a puzzle to make up the overall shape. This means I can knit the pieces in different directions, with different cables. This probably will also mean they will be misshapen in odd ways.
I have played about with this for ages, figuring out the basic shape, dictated mainly by the sleeves.
Capped a circular shape at the top of the sleeve, mimicing the top of your arm and decreases in your armpit. Gives a good fit, but would add an extra layer of complexity when changing the layout of the garment
Boxed is basically a square shape (for all the pieces of the garment), its unflattering and adds lots of fabric under the arms
Set sleeves, have a decrease under the arm and square sleeves, so seems a good compromise.
So with that decided I used some dipryl (stuff used for mocking up sewing patterns) mock up the body of a jumper (in miniature) and then cut it up. I was having difficultly thinking the new layout in my head, how the corners (yes I know there are no corners, it was the new seams between back/front/sides) related was leading me a merry dance.
So now I have a miniature plan, we shall seeā¦
