its ANZAC day, I usually wear a poppy to work and confuse everyone.
ANZAC is about us becoming Oz and NZ and not just the colony's
its when we realised we weren't brits anymore
its' when we erected a monument in every small town in NZ because we lost the most men per head of population. Its when they died running up a slope into enemy guns, because a british general lost a map on a train. Its when being part of something costs you.
A lot of people will disagree with this, but war is something that humans do, we've done it since walked upright. Inhumanity seems to be part of our makeup. A lot of people see war as an unfortunate event that if we tried a little harder we could have prevented. I see it more as a force of nature, but then i've had a cushy existence and have never had to live through one. I'm fairly sure I could/would kill someone in certain circumstances and I'm fairly sure I would never ever ever forget about it. I'm fairly sure if it arrived on my doorstep that I would make sure someone was trying to try that little bit harder.
